It was a beautifully warm, airy day that saw many families leaving the confines of their houses to enjoy a day in the park or partake in other outdoor activities. On the other hand, it was grossly inappropriate for the mood of the small girl standing before the large, daunting estate, holding a single suitcase in a white-knuckle grip and a sealed brown envelope clasped to her chest like a lifeline. Ayano Sanmi’s lavender eyes were wide, as she looked up at the estate her future ‘home’. Surely… surely this was incorrect? She must have gotten off at the wrong place; there was no way anyone who lived in such a place would take her in. Hurriedly looking down at the address she had written on her hand to avoid any mistakes such as this. No… it matched perfectly, which simply made Ayano’s stomach tie in greater knots as she looked down at her attire. Avery baggy, probably male, t-shirt hanging sloppily over decently fitting, though faded jeans and oddly pristine trainers… as though this was the first time they had met pavement.
T-they’re not g-going to be-believe me… I-I’ll p-probably be sent a-a-away like th-this! The small girl thought fearfully, hastily placing everything down on the ground and pulling on a tan coat, the edges lined with white faux fur and kept as clean as Ayano had been able to do so. It was the nicest thing she owned, and despite the warm weather and how utterly out of place she would look wearing it… she wanted to make a good first impression. Picking her things back up, Ayano swallowed thickly while taking a tentative step towards the huge wooden gates. Suddenly, she wanted her teddy so very badly… the small toy had been her best friend for the past thirteen years and always made her feel better. However… in the taxi that had brought her here, she’d seen girls her age; wearing sinfully short skirts, trendy jeans and shirts and heels that their mothers certainly wouldn’t approve of. They wouldn’t be hugging their teddies’ at a time like this.
Closing her eyes and taking deep breaths, Ayano still couldn’t seem to calm herself enough to simply push open the gates. She had all the forms, those explaining all the legal things that had been over her head when explained to her. But to give them to someone… she’d have to talk to them. Even giving the address to the taxi drive had left one word stumbling over the other like a set of twisted dominos’. Ayano whimpered slightly, the hand holding the papers reaching forward to push against the polished wood. Y-you’ve been in-invited h-here… th-they won-won’t send y-you away y-y-yet… Ayano tried to console herself as she slipped in through the small gap in the gates. Leaning against it to nest the gate back in it’s cradle, the girl renewed her tight grip on her belongings. It was huge! She suddenly felt so very hot, though she wasn’t sure if it was due to her out of season coat or the nerves twisting her stomach.
Wh-what d-d-do I d-d-do? Ayano thought, feeling oddly tearful as she looked around the massive space.
