It was eerily quiet in the Sohma house, and only half past noon on that slightly windy Saturday. The trees were changing with fall; golden-scarlet leaves were falling everywhere from the trees that seemed to be desperatley clinging to their former verdant glory. It would take someone with a sharp eye to see the young man sitting out on the porch of the magnificent estate. He was deftly twirling a bright scarlet staff, well-polished and gleaming as its golden tips flared when they caught the light of the sun; he was spinning it so fast that it was nothing but a crimson blur streaked with gold. It didn't look like he minded being alone, he actually looked unnaprochable.
Shen was a handsome boy by all means, he even had a little fanclub going for him at the school that the Sohma children attended. He had flaming red hair, ivory skin, and the most entrancing bright green eyes you could ever hope to see. At only 17, he was well-known in his own family for being a stony-faced loner that would rather be alone. If anyone knew the real story, he was alone because he didn't know how to interact with people other than his sister Shayla. Well.. there were a few, name Fu for example. She was someone that Shen admired, that he could joke with and talk with; call it the tiger's bond.
He flipped the staff up and caught it without any difficulty. If you got to know Shen, you would see past his stern appearance and realize that he had a heart of gold, that he loved to laugh and that he loved to just sit and hold people and notice the beautiful things in life. Balancing the staff on his knees, Shen re-adjusted the white-cloth band in his hair and then picked up his staff when he was done. His staff, the one he'd named Kali-Youga, was his best friend because there didn't seem to be anyone else that understood him. Theirs was a special bond. A glance up at the sky told him that it was about time that the other Sohmas would start to arrive, and then maybe he would get the chance to spend the afternoon with Fu again. They were distant cousins, but they were close.

Could this wind be any more annoying!? The slim girl thought, brushing her hair away from her golden eyes once again for who knew what number of times. It was one thing to have such long hair that it took forever to brush, but another to find the day windy that it was more trouble some then most. It was one of those days maybe. I better not get a lot of crap at home since the office had called. She had gotten in three fights, two was people having a problem with her and the other was someone poking fun at the family.
Fu grunted as she made her way to the doors, trying to slid them open only to find them looked. "It's just not my day.' The tiger growled, rolling her eyes and turning to make her way around back. The only ones who should be there are the maids, cooks, and maybe one or two of her cousins. There was only one or two things she could look forward too. Talking with Shen or Yuki or eating some Squid Sushi.
As she made her way along the wrap around porch, another gust game, this time working it's way up her skirt which she tried to hold down while walking quickly to the other side of the house. Damn these school uniforms! ! ! If she could make it, then she could be free of the wind. Turning the corner, she saw Shen and nodded, finally glad her skirt was staying put now when she caught sight of Shen. He was quiet a beautiful man and Fu wasn't surprised that he had his own fan club.
As she came up to her fellow tiger, she sat down, her legs bent away from him so she would some what comfortable in her skirt. "Yo Shen-kun." She greeted, smooth the blue material over her pale legs.

Shen heard someone approaching long before they came close to him. He whirled around, his ears twitching almost tiger-like, and when he didn't see anyone he decided to remain still and wait for them to come to him. Despite himself, the grip on his staff clenched and his whole body tensed so that he wouldn't be offguard; call it instinct. He couldn't remember a time when he had not been alert, mistrustful, alone. Sometimes when he lay outside and watched the clouds roll by, he wondered why he had become this way. His sister would laugh and pinch him and say, "Don't worry Shen. Somewhere out there, there's a girl that will change you faster than you know." Did that girl exsist? If she did, Shen had yet to find her.
He snapped back to attention and his nose caught a whiff of someone's scent, someone familiar.. then his bright eyes fell upon the figure of Fu, the girl he'd wanted to spend time with only a few moments before. How ironic, ne? Shen nodded his head curtly. "Fu," he awknowledged, before attending back to his staff. Now that he knew that he was in no immediate danger, he relaxed again and focused on twirling the staff inbetween his slender fingers. That too was simple for him.
Yes, Shen was pretty close to his cousin Fu, but he could still be silent around the ones he loevd most. Shayla always complained that he never worked at upholding a conversation, it's a good thing she's bubbly or they would never talk. Shen tilted his head and examined Fu for a moment, she was the same as ever and just as beautiful as she was in the few hours before that he had seen her. Of course, he'd already changed out of his school uniform by then and was now in a comfortable pair of khaki training pants and a scarlet over-coat that was currently opened. It wasn't as if he were trying to show off his body or anything, he was a modest boy, but it was easier to train when the jacket was open. His muscles rippled as he moved slightly closer to her, it was no secret that he was in very good shape. "How was school?" he attempted at conversation, and that was a big thing for him since usually he just didn't talk at all.

The weather was perfect from where she was sitting, no wind disrupting her hair and creating a huge bother. Her eyes flicked towards Shen upon hearing his question. It didn't surprise her that he didn't know about the fights she had gotten into since he pretty much stayed silent in school. Watching him, she became aware of him suddenly a bit closer then when she had sat down and not to mention the open shirt. Even she had to take a few seconds to catch herself. Fu knew he had one hell of a bod and if girls ever saw it, they would melt. Although she didn't have a thing for him, she wasn't tortured by such a sight.
"The usual I guess. Teachers begin teachers, kids being kids, three fights today. I'm debating on even going inside since I really don't want a lecture from Hatori." When the school ever called home, the calls mostly went to Hatori for the ones who didn't really have parents like her. She didn't mind, but it always got boring or she could have been doing something way better with her time.
She sighed lightly, getting tired of the long sleeved navy sailor styled shirt and began to peel it off. Since she hated wearing them, she always wore a cooler shirt in case she got too hot. This time it was her black spaghetti strap, a white pirate pattern fading as the print carried across. Fu tossed the bothered clothing to the side and looked up towards the gardens. She was quiet proud of him for trying to keep up the small talk and just had to let the slightest smile escape across her lips. "What about your day at the oh so exciting place of learning?" She breathed out in her restless voice. She always had some extra energy form some reason. It drove her a bit crazy when she had no way of releasing it. This was something she wonder all the zodiac's had or just the tigers or just her.

Shen smiled at her, he couldn't help it-- Fu always got into some form or trouble, whether she meant to or not. "How many fights was it today?" he asked, clearly amused by her antics at school. She was one of the only people that could get him to smile throughout the school day, although sometimes he just plain collapsed from laughing so hard after he had to pull her off of some poor guy who'd said the wrong thing about her or the family and she just happened to overhear.
His bright emerald eyes glanced over her figure once, and then met her eyes. As polite and chivalrous Shen was, he was still a teenage boy and in that sense, he couldn't quite help himself. "It was mundane," he replied, and after twirling the staff for a good few mintues he twisted it so it bonked Fu on the tip of her nose very gently and then he handed the staff to her. Shen prized his staff above all else and only let a few people touch it, Fu being one of those people.

Her eyes greeted his when she felt the staff against her nose and took his offer to hold it, always admiring the smooth wood and craftsmanship. Fu always took this as a sign of affection on his part since he rarely showed any to people. Not to mention this was Shen's staff! Who else would he let hold it aside from himself? Fu never did question it though. She just took these things as they came since she was born into a weird family after all.
"It was only three today. Two of them deserved it more then anything." She growled softly, twirling the staff low in the air and catching it with grace. Fu never really had to practice this sort of thing. It was just the inner tigers refelxes and such that made this ask seem as normal as walking down the street. It was one thing she loved about being cursed which is strange as that may sound. Once in a while, a tiger will some how find it's way to her as well, but not as much as the rest who are cursed by such common animals.
"Maybe if you mixed things up, your days won't be so wasted." She spoke randomly, watching his staff sail through the air before ladning in her nimble hand.

He watched Fu with a small smile, as she gingerly took the staff from his hands. That was one of the reasons he gave it to her in the first place; she understood how much it meant to him. That, and, they shared the unspoken tiger's bond. Nothing could break that. With a lazy yawn reminiscent of the cat they were cursed after, he stretched out and flopped down against the wood of the porch. That gesture alone showed how relaxed he was around her; usually, he was extremely alert and always wary and ready to move.
Only three? Shen raised both eyebrows. "What did they do?" he asked. Getting a beating from Fu must've meant that they'd done something pretty bad. Sure, the girl got into fights but that didnt mean that she fought for stupid reasons. His intense orbs followed the patterns of the staff and soon went up to the sky, where he tried to find shapes of the zodiac animals. It was an old game that he, Fu, and Shayla played together when they were younger. "Ox," he said randomly, wondering if Fu still remembered the game. He watched as that fluffy cloud rolled by.
"Mixed up my days? What do you mean?" Shen's eyes focused back on her and his eyebrows furrowed. What did she expect him to do? Talk more? Whatever it was, he would listen to her suggestion since he valued her insight.

It was clear to her that he really needed a change in his daily routine. Her mood lightened up though when he layed along the doowen proch, eyes turned towards the sky. FU could only do the samething, laying beside him as her golden eyes searched the skies. Wonder where Shayla is. . . Her thoughts wandered, remembering the days of old when they would do nothing but laze about on days so nice as this one.
Thinking about the way past, her words came through about a more current past event. "The first guy was picking on Momiji and you know how Momiji gets. So I stepped in and taught the guy a lesson that Momiji can wear or act however he wants too. The second fight was a couple of guys who thought they could bet me. They started it out, I finished it. The third one was me just being restless and I started it. I was ticked off from the other fights that I wanted more bloodshed I guess." She joked, spying a sheep floating by according to the wind."
Fu sighed lightly, resting her hands on her stomach with the staff poking through her slightly paled fingers. "Well you could do something totally random that no one would believe that the great and beautiful Shen would ever dream of doing." She suggested. "Or you could go somewhere new or something." She added.
